The Survey of Houghton Hall Estate by Joseph Hill, 1800

(1984, 164pp)

The Houghton Hall estate was in poor shape on the death of Horace Walpole, 4th Early of Orford. His heir, the Earl of Cholmondley, commissioned a Cheshire surveyor, Joseph Hill, to make a survey of the estate. The volume also contains 18 maps and 85 illustrations, chiefly of farm houses, with a detailed commentary.
