2023 Spring Lecture: The Public Library and ‘the Library Without Walls’: A History of Two Renaissance Ideas

18 April 2023 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm BST

The Public Library and ‘the Library Without Walls’: A History of Two Renaissance Ideas

By Dr Oren Margolis, a Lecturer in Renaissance Studies at the University of East Anglia.

The Norwich City Library is an important English example of a phenomenon found across Renaissance Europe: the public library. But the republic of letters, with the aid of the technology of the printing press, possessed also another vision of how to preserve and share knowledge. This talk will explore these two Renaissance ideas, with reference to books in the Norwich City Library collection.
