The King’s Lynn Port Books 1610-1614

The survival, unusual in the depleted state of this class of central government records, of Lynn port books for four consecutive years permits detailed examination of the town’s trade and trading links.  These stretched from Cadiz to Iceland and from the Orkneys to the Baltic with particular emphasis on the Netherlands, the east coast of Scotland and the Baltic ports.  The town’s merchant community, and the extent to which they evaded customs, are also examined.
