Description

The Houghton Hall estate was in poor shape on the death of Horace Walpole, 4th Earl of Orford.  His heir, the Earl of Cholmondeley, commissioned a Cheshire surveyor  Joseph Hill, to make a survey of the estate.

The volume also contains 18 maps and 85 illustrations, chiefly of farm houses, with detailed commentary.
